Aaron Anson Giles passed away at home on Sunday, August 19, 2018. He was 75 years old. Born in Mineral City, Ohio, he was a resident of Franklin County for more than 41 years. He was employed by American Electric Power and retired after more than 35 years of service. He enlisted with the U.S. Army and served for 8 years with the 82 nd and 101 st Airborne Divisions, ultimately rising to the rank of Sergeant First Class. He served 3 years of active combat duty during the Vietnam War, earning multiple commendations, including 3 bronze stars medals (one with valor) and a purple heart. He is survived by his wife, Jeanette; and two sons, Dr. Joel Giles of Evergreen, Colorado and Jon Giles, M.D. of New York City, New York. He is also survived by 3 sisters, Janet Coyle and husband Harold of Dover, Ohio; Leonora Gross of Magnolia, Ohio; and Marlene Brick and husband James of Columbus, Ohio, 3 sisters-in-law, Juanita Hatfield of Clinton, Tennessee, Geraldine Gallaher of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Carol Lamb of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded by his father and mother, Harold and June Giles; son, Corey Giles; brother, Cleon Giles; sister, Marjorie Stover and husband Robert; and brother-in-law, Charles Gross. Graveside services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday at Franklin Memorial Park.
