Albert “Sonny” J. Arnold, 87, of Stephens City, Virginia, formerly of Rocky Mount, Virginia passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2026, in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.
Born August 27, 1938, in Bethesda, Maryland, he was the son of the late Albert John Arnold and Mary Elizabeth Willingham Thompson.
Sonny was a dedicated mechanic for the City of Roanoke in the auto industry until his retirement. He was a graduate of McLean High School, Class of 1957. He was a faithful member of Shenandoah Farms Baptist Church and enjoyed trucks, attending car shows but most of all, Sonny loved spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Fannon Arnold, on October 21, 2010; a son, Greg Arnold; and a stepdaughter, Cae Burge.
Surviving are his daughter, Deborah “Debbie” Harrison and husband Randall; his son, Ronnie Arnold; stepdaughter, Sarita Foster and husband Barry; son-in-law, Jerry Burge; loving friend and companion, Lonnie Wakefield; grandchildren, Christina, Ronnie, Kevin, and Corey; and great-grandson, Jackson.
A Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Church 2717 Ruritan Rd, Rocky Mount, VA 24151 with Pastor Liz Lazenby officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 p. m. to 2:00 p.m.
Burial will be private.
