Alberta Mae Shively

Mrs. Alberta J. Shively, age 83 of Ferrum died in her home on Tuesday, September 9, 2014. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved taking care of her family. She loved flowers, gardening, and cooking wonderful meals for her family. She was a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church and dearly loved all her church family. She was born on July 30, 1931 to the late Roy and Lera James. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin brother, Albert James; her brother, R.H. James; and her sisters, Christine Rorrer, Maxine Jones, and Georgetta Evans. She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Junior C. Shively; her children, Margie Bowling (Wayne) of Boones Mill, VA, Regena Jones (Danny) of Bedford, VA, Christel Scott (Glenn) of Callaway, VA, David Shively (Rachel) of Ferrum, VA and Tim Shively (Cindy) of Ferrum, VA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jonathan Scott (Alla), Shannon Bowling (Tonya), Kevin Bowling (Heather), Amanda Blankenship (Denny), Sara Padilla (Carlos) and Amanda Law; great-grandchildren, Alexander Scott, Courtney Bowles, Brent Bowling, Emily Bowling, Hayden Bowling, Daniel Bowling, William Law, and Gabriela Padilla. Surviving also are her sisters, Nadine Scott and Patsy Carter (Roger); her brothers-in-law, J.D. Jones and Donnie Rorrer; and sister-in-law, Claudine James. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 11 a.m. Friday with Dr. Brian Goard and Pastor Tom Teems officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Flowers will be appreciated or memorials may be made to Carilion Hospice of Franklin Co. or Mill Creek Baptist Church of Henry, VA. Her family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
