Alex Adkins

Alex (Elick) Adkins, age 61 of Rocky Mount went home after battling cancer on Tuesday, June 13, 2017. He was preceded in death by his mother, Louise; father, Eugene; sisters, Myrtle, Geneva and Lillian. Surviving are his sister, Annette and (brother, Wade Adkins) of the home. He also leaves behind his friend, Snowball the cat; sister, Pauline (Rick) Nickelston; brother, Robert (Martha) Adkins of Ferrum; two nephews, Robert and Sharon Adkins of Glade Hill, Eugene and Janie Adkins of Ferrum; two nieces, Darlene Hogan and Audrey Stancil of North Carolina. Alex loved hunting and fishing and the outdoors. He will be missed by his family, friends and neighbors, Ralph and Joan Hall, Bobby and Brenda Harrison, George B. and Gary, and Bonnie Hall. The family thanks everyone for the visits, cards, and gifts during his illness. Thanks for the care that was given to Alex during his stays at the hospital and treatments at the cancer center. A special thanks to Ronnie Hall for going above and beyond his job. Alex loved coaching sports including basketball, football, and softball for many years. He made many friendships along the way. Alex will be missed. A memorial service will be held 5 p.m. Saturday at Flora Funeral Chapel. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
