Alfred Thomas Pagans, age 89, born January 13, 1924 of Union Hall went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at home surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Julia Dillon Pagans; and brothers, Grover, Grady, and Richard Pagans. Surviving is his loving wife of 68 years, Evelyn Estelle Pagans; children, Pat Hamblett (Alton), Sandra Altice (Bob), Michael T. Pagans (Sylvia), Sheila Plyler (E. Derrick), Mark Pagans; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; brothers and sisters, James Russell Pagans; Marie Perdue (Otey), Rachel Pearman (Pete), Oscar Wayne Pagans (Loraine); sister-in-law, Sally Pagans; special friends, James and Joyce Dellis, Thurman and Cindy LaPrade; his loving K-9 Companion, Oscar; numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Alfred retired from E.I. DuPont with 38 years of service. He was born and raised on the family farm which he enjoyed tending to during his retirement. Special thanks to the Carilion Hospice of Franklin County, Nurses Karen Tosh and Karen Pagans for their loving and tender care, best friends and Pastor, Rev. Charles Swicegood and his wife Anna, and the Doctors and Staff of the VA Medical Center for their care and concern shown during Alfred’s short illness. He loved his Lord and was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be missed by all who know him. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Saturday with Rev. Charles Swicegood and Rev. Don Julian officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. His family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
