Alice Ramsey Ross

Our beloved mother, Alice Ramsey Ross, peacefully went to Heaven on Saturday, June 7, 2014. She was 93 years old and was a resident of Countryside Manor in Stokesdale, NC. Born February 12, 1921, Alice was reared in a large family in the small town of Sydnorsville, VA. She attended Franklin County High School and was valedictorian of her graduating class. She later attended business school in Roanoke, VA where she lived with her husband, James (Jim) Harold Ross, and where all three children were born. She moved with her family to Greensboro, NC in 1960 and was a resident there except for 4 years in Silver Spring, MD from 1963-67. Alice was involved in many church and civic organizations over the course of her life. She was an active member of the Guilford College United Methodist Church, where she was President of the Women?s Group, Chairman of the Worship Committee and a Sunday School teacher. She served as Secretary of the Guilford School PTA for several years and was active with Meals on Wheels, helping to prepare and deliver meals to the homebound elderly. She enjoyed her few stints of working and got her NC Real Estate Brokers License after working with David Holliday in Guilford College. Alice?s joy was sustained by her belief in Jesus Christ and she celebrated 54 years with her husband, Jim, who predeceased her in 1993. She is survived by 3 children, Phyllis Jo Ross of Greensboro, Judith R. Barringer of San Francisco, James H. Ross, Jr and wife, Sarah of Henry, VA and 7 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Her surviving sisters are Ann Hinkle and Mildred Doughton, both from Georgia, Nancy Turner from Sydnorsville and sister-in-law, Mary Alice Ramsey, of Rocky Mount, VA. She is predeceased by 4 brothers - Edison Ramsey, Woodrow Ramsey, JD Ramsey and DM Ramsey and 3 sisters - Elizabeth Young, Leawood Turner and Juanita Sensabaugh. "Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints." We will miss her charm, great sense of humor, and the way she made us all feel so special. Visitation will be held at Flora Funeral Home in Rocky Mount, VA on Sunday, June 8, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. There will be a graveside service at the Ross Family cemetery at 9990 Henry Road, Henry, VA on Monday, June 9, 2014 at 11 a.m. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
