Allen Jackson Holley, 91, of Rocky Mount passed away January 18, 2017. He was born on December 16, 1925 near Ferrum, Virginia to the late Elisha and Lillie Emberson Holley. He was also preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, James R. and Ann L. Holley. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years, Audrey Young Holley; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Tim Bussey of Rocky Mount; sister and brother-in-law, Ruby and Carlton Sumner of Roanoke; nieces and their husbands, Rebecca and Arnold Dillon, Regina and Jerry Clark; namesake nephew and wife, Joseph Allen and Janet Holley all of Rocky Mount. Also surviving are three great nieces and a special great nephew, James Clark. Allen was a WWII Navy Veteran having been stationed on Manus Island in the South Pacific. It was there that he learned to be a mechanic. He worked at several local car dealerships until his retirement in 1988. He continued to take care of his own fleet of vehicles, which he very much enjoyed. He also loved photography and rarely went anywhere without a camera. A member of Rocky Mount Baptist Church, Allen attended faithfully until his and Audrey’s health no longer allowed them to do so. The family respectfully requests no food. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to Rocky Mount Baptist Church, the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of your choice. A heartfelt thank you to Patty and Larry Toler and each member of the staff at Red Oak Manor for their compassionate care, friendship and patience during the past six years. The family will receive friends Friday, January 20, 2017 from 5 – 7 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
