Allie Maye Ferguson Meeks, age 90 of 428 Tenth Street, Fieldale went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 21, 2013. Allie was born October 14, 1923 in Ferrum to the late Nathaniel and Vinie Ferguson. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, James Troy Meeks and their daughters, Linda and Brenda; great-granddaughter and great-grandson; sisters, Zora and Beulah Ferguson and Bessie Powell; brothers, Lee, Milton, Hobert, Lewis, Charlie, Larnie and Jack Ferguson all of Ferrum. Allie was a member of Furnace Creek Baptist Church. She also loved dancing, singing, bluegrass music and her family. She retired from Stanley Furniture after 14 years of loyal service. Allie leaves to cherish her sweet memories, her only son, J.W. Meeks of the home; her loving daughter, Darlene Bowers of the home; and daughter, Carlene Wright of Pleasant Grove. Also left to cherish the sweet and loving memories of Allie are her grandchildren, Sheila and Lonnie Martin, Tommy "Lee" Bowers, Jr., Jennifer Martin, Tammy Stoneman, Samantha Bowers, Rebecca Richards and JD Hutcheson; great-grandchildren, Kayla Martin, Will Martin, Travis Martin, Dylan Martin, Phillip Martin, Bentley Williamson, Christopher "Pikey" Bowers, Kristin Bowers and Joshua Barnes. Special thanks to the staff at Mt. Valley Hospice for their loving care. Funeral services will be conducted from Furnace Creek Baptist Church 2 p.m. Saturday with Chaplain Rick Poland officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Her family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday at the church. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
