Alma Levone Beard

Alma Levone Beard departed this world on Wednesday, February 17 ^th , 2021 in Harrisburg, N.C.  Alma was born on March 3, 1924, the youngest of seven children of the late Reed Tyree and Scenie A. Sink of Franklin County, Va.  She grew up to become a devout wife of the late Buford S. Beard and the mother of four children: Barbara, Donald (Donnie), Ronald (Ronnie), and Debra (Debbie). In addition to being a loving wife and mother, Alma was also employed as a school bus driver for the Franklin County School System for a number of years. She always found great joy and comfort in her Christian faith and loved reading her Bible and going to church. In her later life her pride and joy was found within her eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She loved to solve puzzles, watch Jeopardy, bird-watch, sew, and knit. In addition to her parents, siblings, and husband Buford, Alma is also preceded in death by her oldest son, Donnie, son-in-law, Glenn M. Roberts, and long-time companion Johnnie L. Mitchell. Surviving are daughter, Barbara Roberts of Greenville, SC; daughter-in-law Barbara Gail Beard of Glade Hill, VA, son Ronald Beard and wife Lisa of Burlington, NC; and daughter Debbie Davis and husband Tony of Harrisburg, NC.  Also surviving are grandchildren Bo Roberts, Kelley Hatchett, Jared Beard, Jordan Beard, Jonathan Beard, Michael Davis, Stephen Davis, and Emily Davis, along with great- grandchildren Coleman Hatchett and Julianne Hatchett. Funeral Service will be held at Flora Funeral Chapel, in Rocky Mount, VA 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 21, 2021 with Rick Poland officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park on U.S. Hwy. 220. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service.
