Dr. Alpheus Nathaniel Angle left this world on March 5, 2019. He was born July 13, 1952 to Alpheus Nathaniel (Runt) and Audrey Hodges Angle. Surviving to cherish his memories include his wife, Sharon Mattox Angle; his children, Jessica Angle-Mitchell (Chas), Alpheus Nathaniel (Nathan) Angle III (Callie), Whitney Angle Colaprete (Adrian); grandchildren, Charlie and Audrey Mitchell, Jovie and Georgia Angle, Teal Colaprete; and sister, Charlotte Knowles (Lee). Also surviving are sisters-in-law Kathy Gardner (Leeland), Brenda Pricer (Steve), Bonnie Huffman (Darrell), and Gina Childress (John). Al graduated from Franklin County High School, Virginia Tech, and Pennsylvania College of Optometry. He practiced optometry for 38 years with offices in Hurt, South Boston, and his beloved Rocky Mount. Al’s constant love for his hometown and county led him to participate and serve as president twice for the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce and he was involved in numerous committees and special events promoting our county. As a former FCHS athlete, Al was an avid supporter for sports even before he had children active in sports. The same enthusiasm was shown for Boy Scouting as he was honored for promoting scouting as well as for his contributions as a scout leader. Al will be forever known for his “Top Ten” speech given at the Franklin County Public School teachers annual back to school convocation. As a devoted member of Rocky Mount United Methodist Church, he served as a leader in various capacities and was an ardent parishioner. His humor and ability to walk in a room and instantly capture everyone’s attention and his passionate love for his precious children, family, and friends will be sorely missed and forever cherished. Family visitation will be Saturday, March 9th at Rocky Mount United Methodist Church beginning at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Celebration Service at noon. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to the Rocky Mount United Methodist Church, Boy Scouts of America or a charity of your choice. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
