Alvan Macauley Aron, of Union Hall, Virginia, went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at the age of 86. Alvan was born to parents, George Washington Aron and Bertha Compton Aron on February 19, 1932 in Danville, Virginia. After attending George Washington High School, he attended Hampden-Sydney College. He then served in the Army where he was stationed at SHAPE Headquarters in Paris, France. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, Alvan returned to Hampden-Sydney College where he completed his B.S. in 1956. He then attended the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia. Upon the death of his father, he returned to Danville to join his father's automobile business, Geo. W. Aron & Co., Inc., a Packard, Studebaker and Willys dealership. Alvan purchased the family business and expanded to add Mercedes-Benz and Jeep. He owned and operated the dealership until 1988 when he sold the franchise and he entered retirement. Alvan was a Charter Member and President of the Danville Evening Lions Club, Deacon at First Baptist Church of Danville, Chairman of the United Way of Danville, President of the Danville New Car Dealers Association, and Chairman and Member of the Board of Directors of the United Way. He enjoyed life at Smith Mountain Lake and spending time with his many friends and family, as well as fishing, photography, boating, traveling and golf. He was a faithful member of the Franklin Heights Church in Rocky Mount, Virginia, where he loved his Sunday School class. Alvan is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 33 years, Cecilia R. Aron; two sons, Alvan Macauley Aron, Jr. (Catharine) and Scott Simpson Aron (Debbie); one stepdaughter, Terri Buckles Lahlou; one stepson, William Douglas Buckles (Kristy); two grandsons, Bradford Macauley Aron and Scott Simpson Aron, Jr.; and one granddaughter, Ashley Aron Harris (Danny); one great-grandson, Gavyn Harris; one step-granddaughter, Avery E. Buckles; four step-grandsons, William Tyler Buckles, Zachary N. Lahlou, Aidan C. Lahlou and Benjamin A. Lahlou. He is preceded in death by his sister, Sarah Aron Mathis and his parents, George and Bertha; and half-brother, George Aron. A memorial service will be held at Franklin Heights Church (110 Hilltop Drive, Rocky Mount, Virginia 24151) on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Stan Parris officiating. A reception will follow to greet family and friends. The family requests donations in lieu of flowers to be made to the Franklin Heights Church or Cool Branch Fire and Rescue P.O.
