At the age of eleven, Jean came to Boones Mill to live with Earnest and Mary Fisher. At age sixteen she starting dating a young man from church and they married a year later. They were blessed with 54 years of marriage and two children. She was a lifetime member of the Boones Mill Church of the Brethren. She retired from Martin Processing after 31 yrs. where she made many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tounes Dunahoo; mother, Elsie Kitchen; sister, Juanita Maxie; nephew, Wayne Richerson. Those left to mourn her passing; daughter and care giver, Sharon Smith; son, Malcolm Dunahoo all of the home; grandson, Jacob Dunahoo; great-granddaughter, Maddy; step-granddaughters, Raven Smith and Ashley Morris; step-great-grandchildren; Steven, Alana and Tristan Morris; sister-in- law, Mildred Kinsey; several nieces and nephews and special friend, Lois Harden.
Jean was loving and giving person. She never met a stranger. You never mentioned liking something that she had because you would find yourself going home with it. No one could explain it any better than her friend Cindy, "God puts special people in our lives for a reason. I had lost my own mother months before meeting Jean. Jean sat me down and said she would always be there as a mother figure for me and my girls."
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at Flora Funeral Home in Rocky Mount. A graveside service will be held 2 pm Wednesday September 28, 2016 at Mountain View Memorial Park, Boones Mill with Reverend Leonard Martin officiating. The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to General Shepherd Hospice and special care givers; Sandee, Kelly, Pam, Donna and Amanda. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Planned Pethood, Virgil Goode Hwy., Rocky Mount, Va. 24151.
