Anna Bussey Morris

Our beloved Anna passed away on July 6, 2018 at the age of 95. Anna was born in Rocky Mount, VA to the late John William Bussey and Elizabeth Saul Bussey. In addition to her parents she was preceded by her husband, James Earlie Morris; five brothers, Cornelius (Jack) Bussey, James (Jake) Bussey, Walter (Herbert) Bussey, Artis Lee Bussey, and Bunion (B.B.) Bussey. Anna was one of the oldest members of Oak Grove Church of the Brethren, where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, worked with bible school and truly loved her church. Anna was a great lover of work and spent more than 33 years at Jones Produce in Rocky Mount, meeting and remembering so many people throughout her life. She as well loved the Thursday morning Blue Grass music at the Dairy Queen and loved to go there as long as she could. At the loss of her parents, Anna became the matriarch of the family, keeping traditions ongoing, making sure the family stayed close and kept in touch. When Anna developed health problems, she chose to live at Red Oak Manor Assisted Living, and our sincere thanks go to Patty and Larry Toler and the staff at Red Oak for taking care of her, loving her and making a good home for her for the remainder of her life. Our thanks to Debbie Dillon for working tirelessly to keep Anna’s hair just like she liked it. Anna is survived by three sisters, Nadine Bussey Rutrough, Avis Bussey Board, Patsy A. Bussey (Pat); one brother, Rabon A. Bussey (Judy); four sisters-in-law, Ramona Bussey, Myrtle Bussey, Rebecca Ellis, Inez Morris; sixteen nieces and nephews; twenty seven great nieces and nephews; as well as numerous great-great nieces and nephews; and special friend, Kay Duffy. Funeral services will be conducted at Flora Funeral Chapel, 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 10, 2018 with Pastor Richard Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Friends may call after 12:30 p.m. Monday with her family receiving friends 5-7 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
