Anne P Parcell

Anne P. Parcell, age 91, of Rocky Mount, passed away Friday, October 14, 2016. She was born January 4, 1925, a daughter of the late Major Carson Parcell and Annie Scott Parcell and was also preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, W. H. Parcell, Jr.; son-in-law, Arthur T. Greene, Jr.; brother, Walter Carson Parcell; sisters, Cora P. Reynolds (Buford), Margaret P. Fralin and Hazel P. Williams (Raymond); sister-in-law, Margaret Davis Parcell. Surviving are her children, Joyce Parcell Greene and William Hamilton Parcell III (Sylvia); grandchildren, Arthur Trevilian Greene III (Jessica), Wallace Parcell Greene (Sarah), Coranna Morgan Greene Santos (Peter), Hanna Elizabeth Parcell, William Hamilton Parcell IV; great-grandchildren, Arthur Trevilian Greene IV, Solomon Daniel Greene, Neve Elizabeth Greene, Sydney Ross Santos, Tessa Nove Santos, Mayla Greene Santos; brothers, William Major Parcell and John Larry Parcell (Judy); brothers-in-law, Henry F. Fralin and Robert E. Parcell; sister-in-law, Mary B. Parcell; numerous nieces and nephews. Special appreciation is expressed to her caregivers, Beverly and Joe Rutter, Barbara O’Neil, Erma Gearheart, Faye Beckner, Marie Preston, and Becky Bleicher. Anne began her working career on November 16, 1942, when she became a substitute clerk for the United States Postal Service at the Rocky Mount Post Office. She was promoted to regular clerk in 1955, and again promoted in 1971 to Assistant to the Postmaster, later known as Superintendent of Postal Operations. She held this position until her retirement on January 3, 1986, after 40 years of service. After her retirement, Anne stayed active with her church, Beulah Baptist Church, the Sontag Community Club, the Ladies Auxiliary of Franklin Memorial Hospital and many other community services. Anne also worked many years at Flora Funeral Service as a hostess, completing over 57 years in the work force. Funeral services will be conducted at Flora Funeral Chapel, 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 17, 2016 with Rev. David Saleeba officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be to Beulah Baptist Church, Carilion Hospice Services of Franklin County or the Sontag Community Center.
