Listen to Obituary
Annie Garnett Jones Cuff was born April 15, 1919 in Franklin County Virginia to the late Will and Jennie Waid Jones. Annie was the second oldest of 7 children and was predeceased by 3 siblings with 3 siblings still living, all 80 years old and older. “Mama”, as she was affectionately called by her children, lived a blessed 92 years. Mama dearly loved her mother and wrote in her Bible “I had a good mother and if anybody went to heaven, I believe my mother did”. At an early age Mama lived with her grandmother, Molly Waid, who strengthened her strong religious foundation. Mama attended Center Ridge School in Ferrum, Virginia. She then moved to Jinkin Jones, W. Virginia where she continued her education. Mama met and married James Richard Cuff on June 16, 1941. Mama raised 12 of her children, several grandchildren and nurtured and cared for many great-grand children. Two daughters, Florence and Jewel, preceded her in death. After baptism in the Holy Spirit on February 12, 1984 at the Water Way Holiness Church, Mama later joined the A.M.E. Church in Rocky Mount where she was very active with many ministries and enjoyed every opportunity to lead songs. Her employment involved cooking at several restaurants for many years. She loved cooking and was an excellent cook. She became affiliated with the Franklin County Senior Facility where she was well known and dearly loved. Mama won several awards and was recognized at several of the events. In May 2000 she won first runner-up in the Ms. Senior Pageant. She was also recognized by the Franklin County Retail Merchants Association and Franklin County Department of Aging Services as a “Mother of the Year” recipient on May 13, 2000. In June 2010, after declining health, Mama moved into the Franklin County Rehabilitation Center where she went from room to room, and up and down the halls, (in her wheel chair) singing and reading scriptures to other residents. She was often asked to sing at the special events. Mama always found a way to have church and sing praises to God. Mama will be forever cherished by her children, Carolyn A. (Harry) Woodley of Hampton, Va., M. Doreatha Cuff, Charles C. (Saundra) Cuff all of Roanoke, Va., Margaret G. Cuff, Dwight R. (Juanita) Cuff, James D. (Jean) Cuff, all of Rocky Mt. Va., Harold A.
