Archie Taylor Hodges Sr., (Papa Hodge), 83, entered heaven’s gate on February 5, 2022, while at home surrounded by his family. Archie was born June 23, 1938 in Franklin County, Virginia to Sam and Daisy Hodges. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Daisy Hodges; his son, Eddie Hodges; his daughter, April Hodges; and his brother Curtis Hodges.
Archie attended Franklin County High School. During his lifetime, he worked in various furniture factories where he took drawings and turned them into beautiful pieces of furniture. He loved to work in his garden planting perfectly straight rows of vegetables. He enjoyed driving his truck in the snow. He thought the Dallas Cowboys should win every Super Bowl. But, his greatest joy was found in his family.
Archie is survived by his beautiful wife, Joann Hodges; his sister Diane Fox and her husband Mike of Jamaica, VA; his sister-in-law Shirley Hodges of Moneta, VA; his son, Archie Hodges, Jr of Roanoke; his son, Tommy Hodges and wife Margie of Ferrum; his daughter, Bobbie Jo Hodges-Lamb and husband Otis of Rocky Mount; and his daughter, Loretta Furrow and husband Tony of Snow Creek; his grandchildren: Alex Hodges (Travis), Jordon Hodges, Starlena Hodges (Jason), Eric Chisom (Kathy), Rebel Hodges, Joanna Goggans, Armondo Hodges, Angel Furrow, and Evan Furrow; daughter in law, Debbie Hodges; numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Archie T. was one of a kind. He was a loving husband to one; daddy to six; pops to nine and Papa Hodge to many. He always had time to listen and always gave good advice. He kept us laughing and always inspired us to do the best that we could do in everything that we attempted. We always got a hug when leaving and always heard I love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck. Thank you honey, daddy, pops, papa Hodge…we’ve got it from here. We will do our best to carry on your legacy. We love you!
