Arthur P. Chitwood, age 88 of Rocky Mount died Friday, March 14, 2008.
He was born March 17, 1919 a son of the late Samuel and Susie Smithers Chitwood.
He was a faithful member and Deacon of Woodlawn Baptist Church and was employed by MW Manufacturing, Baldknob/Lane Co. and Martin Processing.
His joys of life included hunting, fishing and gardening, where he utilized the elements he was surrounded by on his garden to make it grow to its fullest potential.
A proud honor of his life was the 19 years of perfect attendance to church, although this could very well be more, it was only recorded for the 19 years.
Mr. Chitwood will be missed by all, but the legacy he leaves behind reflects his daily walk with Christ, a walk that he lived by and one that will live on forever.
In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Anderson Chitwood; seven brothers, one sister.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his daughters, Patsy Arrington and husband Buddy, Martinsville and Edith Robertson, Rocky Mount; son, Frank Chitwood; his grandchildren, Todd Arrington, Kim and Kevin Ledbetter, Brandon and Heather Chitwood, Brittany Chitwood and fiancé Albert Diaz; great-grandchildren, Amber Arrington, Kendra & Kelsie Ledbetter; sister, Mary Adkins; sister-in-law, Irene Arrington; daughter-in-law Rhonda Chitwood; caregiver, Darnell Cowan.
Funeral services will be conducted from Woodlawn Baptist Church 11 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2008 with Rev. Eddie Hawks and Dr. Randall W. Lenderman officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park.
Friends may call after 12 noon Sunday with his family receiving friends from 4 to 6 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount.
