Barbara Dillon Hunley, age 79 of Rocky Mount departed a happy life on Tuesday, June 3, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Milton Hunley; parents, B. Albert Dillon and Elva Perdue Dillon; a sister, Laverne Dillon; brother, A. Wayne Dillon; brother-in-law, Otis Hunley; and sister-in-law, Bessie Hunley. Surviving are two sons, Dennis Milton Hunley and wife Wanda of Bassett, Dr. Darrell L. Hunley and wife Robin of Pocahontas, VA; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Rachel D. Vanderkleed, brothers-in-law, W. Cleo Hunley, Donald P. Hunley and wife Betty, Thomas M. Hunley and wife Betty, Richard A. Hunley; sister-in-law, Ella Grey Hunley; several nieces and nephews. Barbara faithfully attended Sandy Ridge Baptist Church and Rehoboth United Methodist Church. She was awarded two presidential citations and a certificate of merit from the Worlds Who?s Who of Women. She was a former member of the International Platform Association, the International Biographical Center, Cambridge, England, and currently a member of the International Society of Poets whose trophy for outstanding achievement in poetry was awarded in July 2007. She was a former officer and president of Rocky Mount Junior and Senior Woman?s Club, co-founder, officer, and president of Franklin County Artists Guild during which memberships she won awards and had paintings officially dedicated and hung at Fort Bragg Military Installation and the Wellness Center in Santa Catherina, Brazil, other churches, public buildings and private collections. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 11 a.m., Friday with Pastor Joe Dillon and Rev. Rick Barton officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
