Barry Lynn Kirk

February 17, 1959 — March 23, 2019

Listen to Obituary

On Saturday, March 23 rd Barry gave two thumbs up to Heaven and departed this earth after a ten year battle with Superficial Siderosis (SS) and the many complications it caused. No matter the struggle he would always say “I’m Alright” and have more concern for the people around him. He never complained and maintained a positive and uplifting attitude always. Barry cherished his family and his inherited dog Roscoe and all the time he had with them.

Barry started his earthly journey on February 17, 1959 to James and Frances Kirk. He was a wild child and grew into a wild adult (but eventually settled down.) He was a hard working truck driver but enjoyed time off for fishing, watch racing and wrestling. He had two children and became a grandfather at the age of thirty-six which he thought was too young and therefore became PA BARRY to all seven grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Barry is survived by his parents, James and Frances Kirk; his long-time girlfriend, Diane Shorter; daughter, Melinda Kenton (Joseph); son, Jason Kirk; brother, Jamie Kirk; his seven grandchildren, Hannah, Zechary, Briana, Joshua, Alicia, Callie, Madelyn; and five great-grandchildren, Luna, Nova, Declan, Addisyn, and Solomon.

Funeral services will be conducted from Boones Chapel Church of the Brethren 12:00 noon Tuesday with Pastor Michael Gallimore officiating. Interment will follow in the Kirk Family Cemetery. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
