Benjamin Lewis Angle III born April 1, 1932 passed to eternal life with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 13, 2019 with the love of his life and wife of 55 years Christine Smith Angle by his side. He is also survived by daughters Christy Marie Angle and Anne-Lewis Dessart and son-in-law Alex: three grandsons Benjamin, Sebastian and Julian. He is preceded in death by his parents Benjamin Lewis Angle Jr and Lucille Morris Angle and brother Peter N. Angle. He had many accomplishments in his life. He was Rocky Mount's first Eagle Scout. He later enrolled in VMI where he was Southern Conference Cross Country champion 1954, half mile champion 1954-55, Big Six 880 champion 1952-54, and inducted into the VMI Hall of Fame. He graduated VMI in 1955. Benjamin served in the US Army from 1956-1958 as 1 st Lt. tank platoon leader in the 510 th Tank Battalion, Mannheim Germany. He worked and traveled Europe until he returned in 1960. He became a board member and later owner of W N Angle Insurance Agency where he retired. Ben made many donations to the community. He was a member of the Rotary Club, the Jaycees, and served as a member and director of the Chamber of Commerce and a member of Rocky Mount United Methodist Church. Ben was a wonderful man, husband, dad, papa, friend and roomate. He never met a stranger. He enjoyed spending time with his family, reading the Wall Street Journal, taking walks in the woods, and hunting grouse. The family would like to thank his dedicated caregivers Angie, Celeste, Dorothy, Evelyn, Kathy, and Alisha, also the nurses and staff at Amedysis-Hospice, and Pheasant Ridge. A special thank you to longtime family friend, Mike and great niece Jackie. A memorial service will be held on a later date due to his wife's health. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Ben’s name to Rocky Mount United Methodist Church and Franklin County Historical Society.
