Benjamin Lee "Benny" Smith

Benjamin Lee “Benny” Smith, age 72 of Glade Hill died Monday, March 25, 2024 at home with his family by his side. He was born December 8, 1951 a son of the late Benjamin Ford Smith and Helen Ingram Smith and was also preceded in death by his sister, Jeanette Peters; and brother-in-law, Raymond Peters.

Benny built boathouses on Smith Mountain Lake for over 50 years and owned and operated Smith Construction Company. He was an avid hunter who loved hunting and fishing with his many friends and family on his farm. He also loved racing and spent many years at various race tracks where he owned, sponsored, and spotted for his many race cars. Of all Benny’s accomplishments and interests, his grandbabies were his biggest blessing and made him most proud.

Surviving are his children, Jennifer Smith Meeks (Anthony), Benjamin “Scott” Smith (Jessica), Jessica Smith Hartsock (Jonathan); grandchildren, Asher Meeks, Benjamin Smith and Emma Hartsock; very special friend, Sandra Altice and her family; brother and best friend, Doug Smith (Dianne); sister, Brenda Solomon (Gary); many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and special friends.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date at his farm. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
