Benjamin Franklin "Benny" Horsley, age 57 of Penhook passed away suddenly on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at his home. He was born in Franklin County on May 5, 1956 to the late Howard and Angie Horsley and lived in the Penhook/Union Hall communities his entire life. He served in the United States Army National Guard and was employed for many years as a machinist. For the last few years Benny has been disabled due to his declining health. He was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Jarvey Mitchell; and niece, Lisa Dawn Mitchell. Surviving are his loving wife of 32 years, Tammy Horsley; daughter and son-in-law, Yolanda and Evan Holiday; an expected granddaughter, Zoe; daughter, Brittany Horsley of the home; sister, Nancy Mitchell; nephew, Chris (Lena); special young buddy, Fox Harbert; special friends, Wallace Richardson and Eric Hodges; special aunt, Betty Staples. Benny was also survived by his loving K-9 companion, Chance; and grandpuppy, Izzie; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Graveside services will be conducted from the Horsley Family Cemetery 11 a.m. Wednesday with Chaplain Rick Poland officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the family to assist with medical expenses. His family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
