Rev. Berlin Glenn Hanks, age 84 of Rocky Mount died Tuesday, November 1, 2016. He was born in Carroll County on November 7, 1931 to Stewart Hanks and Alta Coulson Hanks. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Berlin received his Master of Divinity from Lexington Theological Seminary in Lexington, Kentucky and served churches in Virginia and Kentucky. Throughout his life, Berlin served the community as well as the church. He was a charter member of the Snow Creek Rescue Squad and the Obie Minter VFW Post 10840. He served on the Franklin County School Board in the late seventies. He was known for his chair caning abilities, baking rolls and making molasses. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Wesley Burnette, a brother and two sisters. He is survived by his wife, Opal Hanks; daughter, Angela and her husband Randy Winn; son, Jonathan and his wife Melanie Hanks; grandchildren; Megan, Hunter and Haley; brother, Donald and his wife Dorothy Burnette. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 4, 2016 at Flora Funeral Chapel with Rev. Rob Lovett, Rev. Joe Dillon and Rev. Randy Winn officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park. His family will receive friends at Flora Funeral Service on Thursday, November 3, 2016 from 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers and food, memorials may be made to Snow Creek Christian Church or the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
