Bernice Altice Meador, age 96 of Rocky Mount, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2024.

She was preceded in death by her husbands Bunyan Thurman & Wayne Meador; son, Garry Thurman; parents, Cabel & Alice Altice; siblings, Nellie York (Marvin), Posey Altice (Hilda), Henry Altice (Christine), Fred Altice (Nancy) & Delma Law (Clarence).

Surviving are her daughter, Janice Thurman (Jerome Reynolds); grandchildren, Steve English (Julie) and Jennifer Call (Greg Davis); great grandchildren, Will English, Lili Call, Harmon English & Gary English; step-great grandchildren, Remington & Christian Davis.

Tootie was born, raised and lived her life on Grassy Hill in Rocky Mount, VA. She worked briefly at DuPont but retired from J.P. Stevens where she worked as a weaver for 31 years.

She was a dedicated steward of Oak Grove Church of the Brethren where she followed in her father's footsteps as treasurer for many years. She was a talented cook and known for her generous servings. She liked to stay busy and spent countless hours quilting, crocheting, sewing and crafting.

Tootie was a loving daughter, wife, mother, & grandmother. She had a strong work ethic and an unwavering faith in Jesus Christ.

Special thanks to the caregivers and Carilion Hospice who treated her like a queen and allowed her to live out her final days at home.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2024 at Flora Funeral Chapel with Rev. Will Waller officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
