Bessie Lee Ferguson Powell

Bessie Lee Ferguson Powell, age 93 of Ferrum died Wednesday, December 28, 2011. She was born February 15, 1918 a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W.N. (Nat) Ferguson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl Cassell Powell; son, Lowell T. Powell; son-in-law, Bethel T. Mason; special niece, Joyce Powell McCall; sisters, Zora and Beulah Ferguson; brothers, Lee, Milton, Hobert, Lewis, Charlie, Larnie, and Jack Ferguson. Bessie was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Elbert and Jean Powell, Norman and Linda Powell, Dean and Celie Powell of Hickory, NC; daughters and son-in-law, Geneva Mason, Gloria and Marvin Young; special nephew, Roscoe and Valeria Powell; sister, Allie Meeks of Fieldale, VA; grandchildren, Debra Mason-Schmidt (Mike), Tommy Mason, Randy Powell, Bruce Powell, Pamela Powell, Derek Powell, Travis and Leah Young, Dean, Jr. and Jennifer Powell, Joe and Ashley Powell, Frannie Powell; great-grandchildren, Brandon Powell, Stephanie Pahon, Tanner Young, Maranda Lancaster, William Powell, Reese Powell, Griffin Powell, Joe Powell, Sam Powell, Brandon Webb, Susan Webb, Lee Mason; great-great-grandchildren, Aiden Pahon, Hunter Powell; special great-nieces and great-nephew, Sara Powell, Melissa Wenger, Ken McCall; special family friends, Henry Draper and Marilyn Maietta. Special thanks to the staff at Fork Mountain Rest Home for their care and concern. Funeral services will be conducted from Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church 1 p.m. Saturday with Rev. Liz Lazenby officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Angie Weddle, 2300 McNeil Mill Road, Rocky Mount, Virginia 24151. Her family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount and other times at the home of Geneva Mason, 2645 Virgil H. Goode Hwy., Rocky Mount.
