The Virtuous Woman (Proverbs 31: 27-31)
Sarah Bethel Foster of Rocky Mount went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 25, 2018 . She was in the loving care of Beverly and Joe Rutter with her family close by her side. Bethel was born January 16, 1920 to the late Thomas and Martha Guilliams of Callaway. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 75 years, Clyde Foster; three brothers, James Guilliams, Elridge Guilliams, and Brent Guilliams; two sisters, Dorothy Foster and Pauline Furrow. Those left to cherish her memory are her sister-in-law, Mildred Guilliams; her daughter, Betty F. Cooper (Jimmy); her son, Marvin L. Foster (Janice); her granddaughters, Sarah C. Pennino (Ray), Susan F. Lane (Eric); her grandson, Steven L. Foster (Kerri); her great-granddaughters, Rachel Pennino, Mary Catherine Pennino, Ally Foster, Paige Foster; her great-grandsons, Parker Lane and Drew Foster; and her great great-grandson, Lachlan Foster-Thomson; and numerous nieces, nephews and family friends. Bethel grew up during the Depression. She attended school for seven years at the Phoebe Needles Center. Afterwards, she went to work at an early age where she met the love of her life, Clyde Foster. After the first few years of their marriage, they bought a small farm near the Fairview Church of the Brethren. There they raised their family, and Bethel later worked at a public job for many years. She enjoyed her friends and preparing many meals for church activities, friends and neighbors. Funeral services will be conducted from the Fairview Church of the Brethren 2 p.m. Wednesday with Chaplain Rick Poland and Pastor Jeff Wray officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. The family requests no food and in lieu of flowers that memorial donations be made to the Fairview Church of the Brethren, 4638 Franklin Street, Rocky Mount, VA 24151, or to the charity of your choice. A heartfelt thanks is extended to Beverly and Joe Rutter for the professional and loving care over the last four years. Also, the family expresses appreciation to Barbara Jean Cary for her wonderful care. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
