Betty Cooper Hale, age 105, of Rocky Mount, passed away Friday, 4/24/2015, at Franklin Health and Rehabilitation Center in Rocky Mount. Born June 18, 1909, the daughter of the late Samuel and Harriet Cooper of Callaway. Along with her parents, Mrs. Hale was preceded in death by her husband, Dalton John Hale; two brothers, Daniel, and Noel Cooper; three sisters and their husbands, Maude and Jim Edd Sloan, Mattie and Charlie Woods, and Annie and Elton Mountcastle; one sister, Allie Cooper and one brother-in-law Hank Cash; one son, Donald Hale; and one son-in-law, Vern Berry. Surviving to cherish her memory is her sister Jessie Cash; her sister and brother-in-law, Hettie and Paul Radford; her three sons and their wives, Burnice and Alice Hale of Bassett, Coy and Linda Hale of Irvine, CA, and Ralph and Judy Hale of Ferrum; and son, Berkley Hale of Bassett; one daughter-in-law, Juanita Hale of Ferrum; three daughters, Doris Berry and Elva and husband Dean Bourne of Martinsville, and Shirley Whitlow of Bassett. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grand-children; and one great-great-grandchild. Mrs. Hale made her home in Ferrum most of her life. She enjoyed her family and many friends, reading, working crossword puzzles, playing bingo, and listening to music. All services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Phoebe Needles Center, 732 Turners Creek Rd., Callaway, Va. 24067-5814 or the charity of your choice. The family would like to extend a special heartfelt thank you to all the staff at Franklin Health Care in Rocky Mount for their excellent care.
