Listen to Obituary

Betty Lynch Maddy, age 70 of Rocky Mount died peacefully and went home to her Savior and Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday, July 16, 2017. Betty was born August 20, 1946 a daughter of Taylor and Gladys Lynch of Rocky Mount, VA. She is the widow of the late Donald Maddy whom loved her dearly all of the 46 years they were married. Betty is survived by her mother, Gladys Lynch; sister, Gail Thomas and husband C.W.Thomas; brother, Billy Lynch; son, Brian Maddy and wife, Vicky Maddy; and her two precious granddaughters, Bria Maddy and Braelyn Maddy. Betty loved the Lord and her church, so much so she served as the church secretary of Furnace Creek Baptist Church for over 20 years.  Her passion to both the pastors and the members was seen daily as she always made herself available no matter what was needed or who called on her. She was daily found reading her bible, teaching the children of the church, and caring for the needs of anyone whom stepped into the office of Furnace Creek Baptist Church. All of this, she did with a beautiful smile and a joyous laugh. Her marriage to Donald Maddy was one of great joy and pride to her and they both were a perfect example of how God, when put in the center of a marriage, can bring victory in times of trials and even more joy during the best of times.  She truly loved and respected her husband “always and forever.” She was a loving mother of one son, Brian Maddy. With great patience and love, she always tried to teach him what it means to know the Lord, respect others, and be a good father and husband. Being a grandmother only brought joy to her and she loved her two granddaughters more than words can describe.  Her face would always light up with that beautiful smile when they walked in the door and those girls too felt the same way of her. Betty Maddy’s life was devoted to always giving to others whom she loved.  She never asked for or wanted of anything from anyone, especially her family, but instead only desired to serve them. Betty will be greatly missed by so many people her life touched in the town she called home her entire life, Rocky Mount.  Especially missed will be that beautiful smile she so easily shared with everyone she met. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Furnace Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Griffith and Pastor Philip Bramblet officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Her family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
