Boneta (Bonnie) Carter Corley, 85, passed away on November 4, 2015, in Orlando, Florida. Bonnie was born on April 20, 1930, in Ferrum, Virginia, and was the seventh of the eight children of Sylvanus and Virgie Carter. She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Robert L. Corley; her grandson, Adam C. Renick; and her brothers and sisters-in-law Lauren and Reavie Carter, Leslie Carter, Donovan and Vivian Carter, Otis and Velma Carter, and Leon and Elizabeth Carter.
Bonnie will be remembered with great love by those surviving her: sister, Elaine Carter Nuckols; brother and sister-in-law Maury and Elaine Carter; children James and Rose Mary Renick, Jane and Ken Wolford, and Barbara and Rick Schilling; stepchildren Robert Jr. and Virginia Corley and Rebecca Benzie and their families; and grandchildren Scott and Amanda Renick, Penny Wiggins, Anthony and Amy Wolford, and Ryan and Stephanie Schilling. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Gracie and Lauren Renick; Brittney, Courtney, Bryce, and Gavin Ellis; Riley and Braylen Wolford; and Carter and Carroll Schilling, along with numerous nieces and nephews and a host of wonderful friends.
Bonnie was a long-time member of Orlando’s First United Methodist Church and several of its United Methodist Women’s groups. She was also active for many years in the Marlando Club and the Red Hat Society. She was an avid reader, expert bridge player, knitter extraordinaire, and fierce marbles competitor who always managed to beat her brothers, much to their dismay. She will be remembered for her humor, compassion, generous spirit, and warm heart. Although always a tomboy at heart, she was the finest of ladies.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 8, 2015, at Flora Funeral Home in Rocky Mount, Virginia. Funeral services will be conducted by The Rev. Joanna Marcy Paysour on Monday, November 9, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Flora Funeral Home, with burial to follow at the Carter Family cemetery in Ferrum. Memorial donations may be made to the Carter Family Scholarship Fund at Ferrum College, Post Office Box 1000, Ferrum, Virginia 24088.
