Boyd John Miles, age 42 of Franklin County passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2014 after a tragic accident in Utah. He was born and raised in upstate New York. Surviving are his wife, Tonya Miles; daughter, Darlene Miles; faithful canine companion, Brighteyes; mother, Anna Miles; father, Les Miles; mother-in-law, Pam Hassler and husband, Jeff; father-in-law, Bob Neeley; sister-in-law, Sara Mayhorn and husband, Cecil; niece, Elizabeth Mayhorn; and nephew, Zachary Mayhorn. Boyd served in the United States Army, was an Eagle Scout and member of the Order of the Arrow. He also served as a Scoutmaster for several years. He ran with the Boones Mill Rescue Squad for a few years that he greatly enjoyed. He was a lifeguard for the YMCA and the Franklin County Recreation Department. He was also an EMT for Carilion Hospital before returning back to the open road. Boyd loved his family and friends and his Heavenly Father. He received Jesus as his Lord and Master and served Him the rest of his life. He was kind, hardworking and helpful to all. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be directed to the Darlene Miles Education Fund, c/o Callaway Elem. School, 8451 Callaway Rd., Callaway, VA 24067. A memorial service will be held at the residence 3 p.m. Saturday. His family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
