Braeton Lindsay Hagy

Braeton Lindsay Hagy, age 23, passed away on November 22, 2022 in Dallas, TX.  Braeton was born on January 25, 1999 in Richmond, VA, to parents Mark and Karen Hagy.  He is preceded in death by his beloved grandmother, Brenda “Nannie B” Akers.  He is survived by his parents and sister, Caroline Hagy; grandparents Selma “Duck” Akers and Dr. J.A. and Carol Hagy Sr.; aunts Susan Hodges, Robin Wunderlich (Dana), Alyson Hagy (Bob Southard), and Melchora Alexander (Rob); uncle Dr. Al Hagy Jr.; first cousins Zach Hodges, Caitlin Abelseth (Jacob), Megan Wunderlich, Tyler Wunderlich, Connor Southard, John Hagy, III (Kira), Colin Hagy, Madison Alexander and Ashley Alexander, as well as multiple other cousins and extended family members, including “bonus” grandmother, Bonnie Jo Sink, with whom Braeton had a special relationship.  Lastly, the power of companionship can never be underestimated for he loved his cats, most recently and more than all, Kitty Kitty.

Braeton was a kind, funny, and gentle souled child and unique young man, full of passion and strong in his beliefs.  He loved his grandparents dearly, for they came from a time he believed to be more honest and with deeper integrity.  Braeton loved talking with older people and strangers, treating them with the utmost friendliness and compassion.  He adored and protected his sister, Caroline, as she symbolized for him beauty, comedy, and a forever bond.  He graduated from Salem High School in 2017 and enjoyed his high school friends.  In the years after graduation, he continued to laugh at the times they had together. Braeton loved work and was proud of his strong work ethic.  He most recently worked at University of Texas Southwestern Oncology Center in Dallas, TX.  While Braeton was well-traveled, the mountains and farms of Franklin County, VA were the places he felt peace, rest, and freedom; he articulated this frequently.

A memorial service will be held December 3  ^rd  at 3pm at 3610 Hopkins Road Rocky Mount, VA 24151 in the place Braeton found sanctuary.  The service will be held outdoors.  Please bring a chair, as seating will be limited. Dress is casual to honor Braeton’s memories of working and playing on the farm.  The family is not ready to receive friends; therefore, there will be no visitation or receiving line at the service.  Braeton’s ashes will be scattered on a later date on this land which held and loved him back, with the sound of the Blackwater River and its springs on the Old 100 Farm embracing our precious boy.

Braeton will also be honored in Dallas on November 28  ^th  by those who cared for, loved, and held him as he worked tirelessly to overcome addiction and improve his life.
