Listen to Obituary

Brian Keith Ferguson, 59, of Henry, VA,  began his eternal hunting trip Saturday, January 30, 2021, setting out from home in the walk of a lifelong hunter, quiet, light-footed, and peaceful.

Bidding him farewell on this journey, his loving and devoted wife, Lorie Ferguson; his stead-fast son of whom he was so proud-the pride of his life, Kaleb (Jennifer) Ferguson;  grand-daughter, the apple of his eye and joy of his heart, Julia Grace; loving parents Jackie and Juanita Ferguson; first sparring partner and favorite sister, Karen (Todd) Warlitner; and endearing little brother, Duffy Ferguson.

He was a life-long Franklin County soul of few words, but made them count in casual conversation, direct as needed, or with a laughing drawl accompanied by a sly side-ways smile known to everyone who knew him.

An electrician by trade, there was nothing he could not install, repair or create anew.  As a child he took Christmas toys apart, and not just his toys, remaking them into new gadget toys.  He obliged family and friends when called to help with anything as he was also skilled with construction; there was nothing he could not do with his hands and tools.  If he saw something, he could make it, or make his own version.

He remained close in heart to co-workers and friends from Bassett Furniture and Ferrum College.  He said the only thing he missed from work were the people especially Betty, Hilda, and Donna/Ferrum College Housekeeping and the boys at the maintenance shop/Ferrum College.

His fur babies, Bandit and Bear, brought him much joy and strained his patience, but he loved them dearly.

A mostly quiet man, he was deeply sentimental.  He treasured family pictures, mementos and every gift received which he carefully displayed.   In like manner, he was quietly spiritual.

He loved children and was a long time donor to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

He learned to hunt from his Grandpa Posie at an early age.  He spent most of his life in the woods; he said it was truly home to him.  He said that the woods and his deck were where he found the most peace especially on clear, quiet nights, looking up at the sky and stars.   He is preceded in eternity by maternal grandparents Posie and Leo Sigmon; paternal grandparents Jack and Virginia Ferguson; Aunt Ann Sigmon; cousin Sandra Lawson; Uncle Bobby Ferguson; and cousin Greg Ferguson.

He will be loved from afar by extended family Uncle Laymon Sigmon, Aunt Wanda and Uncle Leonard (Mutt) Spencer, Aunt Earlene and Uncle John Raffloer, Kaitlyn Ferguson (niece), Kevin Ferguson (nephew), stepsons Andy Hubbard and Brandon Hubbard, Brenda Sigmon (cousin), and Cleo (Becky) Sigmon, cousin by blood and in heart.

The family will host visitation at Flora Funeral Chapel Saturday, February 6, 2021, at 1:00 pm.  Following visitation, Derek Spencer, Twin Oaks Baptist Church, will conduct a funeral service including special remembrances by friends at 2:00 pm. There will be a brief message and a farewell song by Jeff Walker for Interment at Republican Church Cemetery, Ferrum, VA.

The family extends its sincerest appreciation for their support in this difficult time to Dr. James Maxey, Franklin County Carilion Hospice, Twin Oaks Baptist Church Family, Gail Holley, and Ferrum College Maintenance Shop.

Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
