Buford Lee Flora, age 76, of Boones Mill, our gentle and compassionate father died Tuesday, April 17, 2007.
Born October 29, 1930, son of the late Wilbur Lee and Pearl Mae Blackwell Flora, he lived and farmed his lifetime on the family home place purchased by his father in 1916. Together they began in the Dairy business, shipping Grade A milk in 1948 and continuing for the next 53 years. Along with the dairy, they also sold eggs in South Roanoke for many years.
Buford accepted Christ and was baptized as a youth by the late Rev. Guy Wampler. He remained an active member of Boones Mill Church of the Brethren where he served as Trustee.
For many years he served with the Boones Mill Volunteer Fire Department and Boones Mill Volunteer Rescue Squad where he was a lifetime member.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister Irma Flora and his wife Earleen Creasy Flora on February 3, 2006.
Surviving are his children Lee and Becky Flora, Lynn and Cindy Flora, Pam and Mark Sweeney, Pat and Darrell Robertson, Mike Lane, and Bobby and Regina Otey; nine grandchildren Caitlyn and Brittany Flora, Janelle, Lillian and Colleen Sweeney, Jay Karr, Joy Schaberl, Barrie Stevens, Rebecca McNeely; great-grandchildren Ryan, Kara, Harleigh, Nathaniel Lee, and Elizabeth; sister Bevoline F. Evans; brother-in-law Melvin Creasy and wife Kathy; four nephews; two nieces.
The family’s love and appreciation is extended to Doris Sink, Bonnie Cassell, Carol Montgomery and Jane Burgess for their support of our father.
Also our deep appreciation is extended to Dr. Christopher Wells, Dr. Narinder Bhalla and the Nurses and Staff of Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, 6th Floor South CSICU, 9th Floor South TSCU, and Therapists Becky Yopp and Amy Bradford.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Boones Mill Church of the Brethren, 25366 Virgil H. Goode Hwy, Boones Mill, VA 24065 or to a favorite charity.
Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2:00 p.m. Friday with Pastor Robert Miller & Rev. Leonard Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park.
Friends may call after 12 noon Thursday with his family receiving friends from 5 – 8 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount.
