Buford Melvin “Hoot” James

Buford Melvin “Hoot” James, age 77 of Rocky Mount passed away Sunday, September 7, 2025. He was born November 20, 1947 a son of the late Wilbert James, Sr. and Effie Chaney James; wife, Sally Dematrice James; and brothers, Earl James, Wilbert “Jinx” James, Troy James, Winford “Jello” James, Thomas “Bread” James. Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Tracy James; sister, Marie James Sigmon and husband Coy Sigmon; brother, Paul James and wife Shirley James; numerous nieces and nephews that he loved dearly. He was the most loving husband, father and friend to so many. He stood by his wife’s side through many years of failing health. His unofficial family at Bowling’s Hot Dog Stand stuck with him through all the good and not. From Greg and Tracy: We are truly grateful for all of our family and friends who are always with us. Funeral services will be held at Flora Funeral Chapel 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 10, 2025. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
