Burford (Horace) Goad, 83 of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord Thursday April 5, 2007.
Horace was born May 15, 1923 to the late Ray and Reva Arnold Goad. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Jewel Shaon Goad; two sisters Myrtle Barbour, and Helen Nastasia; and five brothers Thurston, Nulon, Calvin, Elbert and H.D. Goad.
Horace was a former member of Burnt Chimney United Methodist Church and currently a member of Villa Heights Baptist Church in Roanoke. He served in the US Army during WWII. He was a fifty year member of the Woodman of the World and also a member of the Rocky Mount Ruritans. He owned and operated Goad Electric Service for many years. Horace was a good Christian, husband, father, grandfather and friend to everyone.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Martin Goad of Roanoke; son, Maurice Goad of Hardy; daughter, Annette Yeatts and husband John of Blue Ridge; granddaughters, Kristi Brown and husband Mike; great-granddaughter, Taylor Annette Brown, and great-grandson, Ryan all of Roanoke; sisters, Dorothy G. Lemon, Eunice G. Fullen, and Margaret G. Turner all of Bedford, and many other relatives and friends.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Villa Heights Baptist Church Building Fund, 4080 Challenger Ave, Roanoke, Va. 24012.
Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Brian Clingenpeel officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park.
His family will be receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount.
