Calvin Eugene Smith, age 73 of Rocky Mount dealt his last deck of cards on August 6th, 2015. Calvin loved reminiscing about the good old days from driving his '67 Chevy Truck "Klad" up a tree to making Franklin County's finest. Papa or Pops as he was fondly called was rarely seen without his beloved bibbed overalls and a Coca-Cola in his hand. Calvin was a skilled brick mason building many homes in Franklin County and he proudly served his country in the Vietnam War. He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene; mother, Dannie; brother, Terry "Baby"; and son, Calvin "Neil." He leaves behind three daughters, Jeaneanne (Jerry) Davidson, Martha (Jeff) Holloway, and Rebecca (Reed) Hodges; grandchildren who were the light in his world Gina Davidson, Nikki Davidson, Cory and Cole Holloway, Addison, Taylor, and Tucker Hodges; three great-grandchildren; brothers, George "Clinton", Gerald "Randy", and Ricky (Denise) Smith; sister, Mary Lou (Armand) Denis; special nephew, James Smith; dear friends, Dale Dent, Dale Harrison, Joey Hodges, and Terry Hodges; special companion, Frances Smith who opened her home, loved and supported him to the end. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to your local rescue squad. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Henry Fork Church of the Brethren with Pastor Ronald Coleman officiating. His family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the church. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
