Carmel Holcomb Powell

Thursday, December 31, 2015, Carmel Holcomb Powell, age 81 years devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, departed this life. A faithful member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church family, Carmel was preceded in death by her parents M. Kermit and Lucy A. Holcomb and brothers John M. Holcomb and Glennis E. Holcomb. Surviving to cherish her memory are her husband of fifty-nine years, James L. Powell, son and daughter-in-law Jeffrey L. and Pamela J. Powell, grandson Jacob L. Powell, granddaughter Jessica A. Powell, sister Freeda H. Brown (Randolph), brothers K. Wayne Holcomb (Sherry) and Douglas L. Holcomb (Bobbie), brother-in-law Clifford N. Powell, sisters-in-law Nancy K. Holcomb, Shirley H. Holcomb, and Barbara P. Dunkley, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. A memorial service will be held at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 2717 Ruritan Road, Rocky Mount, Virginia, on Monday, January 4, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. with inurnment following in the church cemetery. Pastor Gus Segovia and Reverend Elizabeth Lazenby will oversee the proceedings. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carmel’s memory to the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church or the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, 2300 McNeil Mill Road, Rocky Mount, Virginia 24151. Friends and family visitation will be held at Flora Funeral Home in Rocky Mount, Virginia on Sunday, January 3, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
