Carrie Evelyn Ferguson Powell

Carrie Evelyn Ferguson Powell, age 91 of Glade Hill went to be with our Lord on Thursday, January 10, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband, Silas G. Powell; her parents, Abie and Belva Ferguson; sister, Blanche Onks; brothers, Abie Ferguson, Elwood Ferguson and Douglas Ferguson. Surviving are her daughter, Betty Powell Hunley (Tommy); son, Glenwood S. Powell (Bettie); four grandchildren, Debra Hunley, Kevin Hunley (Brandi), Leslie Gray (Dallas), and Brook Powell; four great-grandchildren, Tyler Hunley, Cody Hunley, McKenzie Gray and Allie Gray; two sisters, Frances Plybon (Silas) and Garnett Robertson. Also surviving are sister-in-law, Dossie Kennett; brothers-in-law, Ira Powell (Elsie), Dennis Powell (Janice); and numerous nieces and nephews. She was blessed during her lifetime to enjoy traveling with her husband and sisters all over the United States and various foreign countries. The family would like to extend their heart felt appreciation to the staff and residents at Runk & Pratt Retirement Village at Westlake who treated her like family. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Sunday with Elder Junior Conner officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Glade Hill Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 82, Glade Hill, Virginia 24092. Her family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
