Carroll Tucker Richards, Jr., age 90 of Rocky Mount passed away Sunday, August 8, 2010. He was born in Franklin County May 21, 1920 a son of the late Carroll Tucker Richards, Sr. and Annie Bertha Richards. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Anne Beheler Richards; a brother, Eugene Bennett Richards; and a sister, Hazel Wells Garrett. He served his country in World War II from January 1942 to June 1946 in the Eighth Army Air Force and attained the rank of Sergeant. He was a retired carpenter and an electrician and was a life member of Disabled American Veterans. Surviving are his daughter, Mary Lucinda Richards of Rocky Mount; a son, Carroll Tucker Richards, III of Rocky Mount; two sisters, Barbara Ann Ross of Rocky Mount, Mary Catherine Kingery of Wirtz; one brother, John William Richards of Rocky Mount; and one brother-in-law, Donald Edward Beheler of Redwood; four nieces, Charlene Lynch of Roanoke, Lou Anne Purnell of Atlanta, GA, Rebecca (Becky) Garrett McDonald of Greensboro, NC, and Carol Jean Clark of St. Augustine, FL; three nephews, Robert Richards Ross of Hampton, VA, Charles Thomas Beckner, Jr. of Virginia Beach, and James Lee Beckner of Wirtz. Special thanks must be given to the Doctors, Nurses, and Assistants at the Salem VA Medical Center Building 2-3 for the care given to Mr. Richards these three years. Your kindness and loving care will be forever remembered. Funeral services will be conducted from Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church 11 a.m. Wednesday with Rev. Liz Lazenby officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Building Fund, c/o Angie Weddle, 2300 McNeil Mill Road, Rocky Mount, Virginia 24151. His family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
