Cassie Harvey Murphy

Cassie Harvey Murphy, age 98, of St. Augustine FL and Rocky Mount VA went home to be with the Lord Friday, November 19, 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Boyd, and their son, Chester. Cassie was born in Summers County WV in 1912. She lived through many changes, but she was truly a steady heartbeat for her family. Cassie was a nurturing and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was known for her amazing abilities to cook and sew. She used these talents to bring much joy and comfort to those who knew her. She was blessed to be the matriarch of six generations. Cassie kept up with all 61 of them like a mother hen loving and protecting her chicks. She is survived by six children, Boyd Murphy Jr. and spouse Ruth of Delta CO, Louise Carpenter and spouse Dave of Orange Park FL, Dolores McArthur, Betty Overfelt and spouse George all of St, Augustine FL, Nancy Secrist and spouse David of Graniteville SC, and John Murphy and spouse Wanda of Lynchburg VA; a brother, Youell Harvey of Titusville, FL . Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren, great- great grandchildren, and one great- great- great- grandson. Cassie was a member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Rocky Mount VA. Her family will receive friends beginning at 10:30 a.m. until service time at Flora Funeral Chapel, November 23, 2010 with service at 12:00 noon conducted by the Rev. John Cahill. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Roanoke, VA . In lieu of flowers it was Cassie's request that donations be made to your local Salvation Army.
