Celeste Knox Freeman, age 86 of Rocky Mount born on April 24, 1928 was released from pain and suffering of two years on Jan. 19, 2015. She is now at peace and awaits the resurrection when Jesus Christ returns. Celeste Knox grew up in Mooresville, N.C. She graduated from Pfeiffer College in 1948 with an Associate Art Degree, she then moved to Charlotte N.C. and worked for Dr. Jarrett as a dental hygienist. Celeste met her husband, Buddy Freeman, while in Charlotte and later on moved to Rocky Mt., Virginia. Buddy Freeman owned and operated the company, U.S. Brick and Stone. After his death in 1986, the company was sold to Ronnie Nolen and David Freeman, changing the name to U.S. Stone. Celeste Freeman was the bookkeeper for U.S. Stone for many years. Celeste loved her azaleas and working in her flower and vegetable garden. She was a great cook and homemaker and paid attention to every detail. She loved music, especially classical, and had a good voice. You would hear her humming while hard at work. Celeste was a quiet person with a good sense of humor. She had many talents, but excelled at being the best mother, and was devoted to her family. She taught us by example of what a true Christian is. Celeste was always very fair and honest in everything. For Celeste it was truly more blessed to give than to receive. Celeste leaves behind four children, Mary Freeman, deceased, two sons, Greg Freeman and wife Nancy, David Freeman and wife Teresa, one daughter Angela Nolen and husband Ronnie Nolen, and one step-daughter, Cynthia Jolly of N.C., four grandchildren, Jody and Lauren Ewing (Fiancé), Mark, Heather, and Rebekah Freeman and one great granddaughter, Erin McKenzie Freeman, two sisters, Ruth Stone and Shirley Lueke both of Charlotte, N.C. and many nieces, nephews and cousins and special sister-in-law, Blanche Knox Hager of Mooresville, N.C. She was preceded in death by parents Clifford and Mary Honeycutt Knox, sisters Eva Brawley, Lib McCarne, brothers Boyce Knox, Ralph Knox, Teddy Knox, Conard and Bill Gilland. The family wishes to thank many of her caregivers Sandra Wickline, Madge Bryant, Rose Hall, Ally Fields, and many of the employees at Runk & Pratt of Smith Mt. Lake, Cathy Wright, Becky Quesenberry, Sarah Lucado, Ashley Barbour, Cynthia Mitchell, Colleen Altice, Lora Montgomery, and former employee Loretta Howell. We also want to thank Seven Hills Hospice. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Saturday, January 24, 2015 with Rev. Freddie Carroll and Rev. Kelly Pearson officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
