Listen to Obituary

Charles Seymour Hunt, a devoted husband, father, Papa, brother, uncle and friend, passed away on Friday, November 12, 2021. Charles’ love of family was always first and foremost.  He was a dedicated, diligent, hard worker.  He started working for Walter Kingery at the age of 10 each day before attending Franklin County Schools. He graduated from Va Polytechnic Institute in May and began working the next week at MW Manufactures.  Working first as a purchasing agent, and then as a plant superintendent. At night he would cut firewood and kept many families warm during the winter months. During the summer, he always had a garden that managed to get larger each year. So much so, that he started Hunt’s Produce Roadside Stand, keeping many families provided with fresh produce during the summer months.  After retiring, he was able to pursue his lifelong dream of being an Angus Beef farmer. Charles was in many organizations in his lifetime.  He was one of the founders of the Franklin County Football Club when his son Alex played football.  He also helped with the fundraising effort for the first Eagle Express Bus. While a member of the FC School Board he had a reputation for speaking his mind and not holding back the truth. He was the youngest son of eight children to the late George and Evelyn Hunt.  He was preceded in death by family members, Angelia and Wesley Naff, Joyce and Charles Heath, Bonnie Ciccone, Reba and Lloyd Taylor, Edith Barnhart, George E. Hunt Jr., Peter C. Snyder, Hubert A. Ruff Jr., Marea Ruff Snyder and John Patrick Jr, Jeffrey Owen Taylor, and Jonathan E. Brown. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Sandra Ruff Hunt, his two daughters, son, and five grandchildren.  Tiffany, Wes and Taylor Moran; Emily, Emma and Marshall Brush; Alex, Jessica, Cody and Lexie Hunt; his beloved sister, Georgia Anne Snyder-Falkinham (Joe), brothers and sisters-in-law Dr. Alvin J. Ciccone (Karen), Richard Barnhart (Marietta), Anne K. Hunt, 58 nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and many special friends and hunting buddies. Charles’ family expresses much love and sincere appreciation to his trusted companion, Joe Kasey, main caretakers from Carilion Hospice: Helen, Julianne, Jewel and Rick. Without them, it would not have been possible for Charles to remain in his home he was born in, until the very end.  Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 27 th at Flora Funeral Home at 1:00 pm.
