Col. Charles Lee Hutto (Ret.) passed away August 27, 2008 at his home in Moneta, Virginia.
Born August 4, 1920 in Orangeburg, South Carolina, he served in the Army from 1944-74, serving in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War before retiring to Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia in 1974.
He was the Army Assistant for Transportation and Traffic Management, as well as the Assistant Secretary of the Army, with a concentration in installations and logistics. Col. Hutto was a member of the Franklin County Planning Commission.
He is survived by his loving wife, Loulie Carbine, two sisters; Billye Mann and Bobby Price, two daughters; Charlotte (Brigham) Shuler and Terry Hutto, one son; Charles Lee, Jr. (Sylvia); five grandchildren; Mark Shuler (deceased), Beth (Bruce) Smith, Gregory (Lori) Phillips, Lindsay (Kevin) Hurt, Benjamin Hutto; three great-grandchildren; Loulie Smith, Brigham Shuler and Chalis Phillips.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held Saturday August 30, 2008 at Richardson Funeral Home, 11:00 am (1936 Senator Gasque Road, Marion, SC 29571). A military service will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion, South Carolina.
