Charles Welon Turpin, age 86 of Rocky Mount passed into glory Monday, July 1, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. His legacy of loved filled his life, his family and those around him. Charles was born to Charles Dickens and Pansy Brumbeloe Turpin on January 7, 1927. His spiritual growth began at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Danville, Va. where he received his first holy Communion on May 20, 1934 and he served as one of the first altar servers at Sacred Heart Church. He proudly served his Country in World War II and the Korean Conflict in the United States Navy. Charles love for travel carried him to almost every continent and he never met a stranger in this country and abroad. He pursued his loved for the printing trade and graduated from Danville Technical Institute. Left to cherish the memory of her beloved husband of 61 years, Cindy who survives him; along with his devoted daughter, Catherine and Greg Altice. He is also survived by his loving sister, Frances Pritchett; niece and nephew, Carol Parmon and Tony Pritchett of Greensboro, NC. Charles was a founding member of the first Catholic Church in Franklin County, where he devotedly served on many of its committees. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 5th at Flora Funeral Service, 665 S. Main Street, Rocky Mount. A funeral mass will be conducted from Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. with Father Mark White officiating. Interment will follow in Historic High Street Cemetery in Rocky Mount. The family lovingly thanks Charles? caregivers at Vista View Eldercare, Diann and Robert Raville since December 2012. We also thank Wendy Manning who assisted before that date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, 1120 G. Street, N.W.
