Charlie Euell Dowdy

Charlie Euell Dowdy of Rocky Mount died Monday, September 16, 2013 at 73 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Prince Anna Dowdy; sisters, Grace D. Frommel and Eunice D. Hylton; and brothers, J.D. Dowdy and Rudolph Dowdy. Surviving are his wife, Evelyn P. Dowdy; daughters, Lisa D. Crosby (Greg) and Rochelle D. Callahan (Jeff); son, Jim VanCleaf (Traci); grandsons, Joshua and Caleb Crosby and Brett and Troy Callahan; sisters-in-law, Emily McCraw (Bill-deceased), Frances Nix (Tom), Mary Ann Woody-deceased (John); brother-in-law, Eddy Patterson (Linda), and several nieces and nephews. He was a man of great faith and was a member of Fairview Church of the Brethren. He worked at Lynch Hardware and Angle Hardware for many years and was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed life and making people laugh. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 11 a.m. Thursday with Rev. Tom Siddle officiating. Interment will follow in the Jones Family Cemetery at Fairview Church of the Brethren. His family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
