Charlie Robert (Buster) Gibson, age 94 of Callaway, died Saturday, March 7, 2009.
Born on May 20, 1914, he was the oldest son of the late John Robert and Mattie Barbour Gibson. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Edith Farris Gibson; sons, Joseph Benjamin Gibson and John Lewis Gibson; brothers, Kerry William and Jesse Lee Gibson; sister, Mildred Elizabeth Gibson Bowles; brother-in-law, Odie Bowles; and granddaughter, Jodie Lynn Gibson.
Surviving are a sister-in-law, Gracie Clemons Gibson of Floyd; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Peggy Gibson and Nellie Gibson of Boones Mill, Arthur and Gail Gibson of Rocky Mount; daughters and sons-in-law, Geneva and Douglas Chittum of Goodview, Martha and Joe Yopp of Boones Mill, Joyce and Larry McGuire of Rocky Mount, and Ella and Donald Cooper also of Rocky Mount; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; also nieces and nephews.
Charlie was a farmer and orchard worker for most of his life, a career he was proud of, especially the years he lived and worked on the homeplace of the late Josephus and Lydia Ikenberry Bowman of Callaway.
A graveside service will be held at the Farris Family Cemetery 2 p.m. Tuesday with Rev. Ronald Coleman officiating.
Friends may call after 3 p.m. Monday with his family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service, Rocky Mount.
