Charlie Henry Richards, Jr.

Charles Henry Richards, Jr. (Crazy Charlie) age 73 of Boones Mill died Tuesday, May 21, 2019, after a long illness and complications of diabetes. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Henry Richards, Sr. and Hazel Dillard Richards. He is survived by his wife, LaVerne; sister, Ann Richards Vokanos and her husband William; nephew, Douglas Charles Horchler; step-daughter, Karen Nicholson; step-son, Timothy Manning; grandson, Adam Manning. Charles was a graduate of Patrick Henry High School and Radford University. He was also a veteran of the United States Navy having served 4 years on the USS Mahan as a computer technician in Keflivik, Iceland. He was a Mason and in the clown unit at the Kazim Shrine in Roanoke. He enjoyed boating and camping, antique car restoration, drag racing and was a member of the Star City Cruisers Auto Club. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel, 11 a.m. Friday, May 24, 2019. Interment will follow in Rest Vale Cemetery, Copper Hill, VA (Head of the River Primitive Baptist Church). In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Boones Mill Rescue Squad. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
