Christine Smith Angle born May 16, 1933 has passed into eternal life with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, October 30, 2019. She was preceded in death by the love of her life and husband of 55 years Benjamin Lewis Angle III. She was also preceded in death by her parents Roy and Livie Smith, brother Alvin Smith, sisters and brothers-in-law Vaughnie Southall (Jack), Lucille Dillon (Padgett), Goldie Pugh, Glenwood Divers, Eugene Ingram, and Peter N. Angle. She is survived by daughters Christy Marie Angle and Anne-Lewis Dessart and son-in-law Alex; three grandsons Benjamin, Sebastian, and Julian; sisters and brothers-in-law Pauline Divers, Shirley Lani (Ed) and Bud "Spike” Pugh. Chris graduated Franklin County High School in 1952 and Roanoke Memorial School of Radiology in 1954. She went on to become a nuclear medicine technologist in Roanoke, Virginia and later moved to Washington, DC where she continued her career in radiology at the George Washington University Hospital. She loved politics and was campaign secretary for President Richard Nixon and worked in the political field for the President until she returned to Rocky Mount. She was a prominent businesswoman and there was nothing she could not do. She was co-owner of the Village Fashions clothing store and owner of Chris Selects gift shop. She later joined her husband at W N Angle Insurance Agency where she was a board member and committed employee. Chris retired, along with her husband, February 6, 2002. That day she received the best retirement gift ever, her first grandson, with twin grandsons 2 years later. Chris had a deep love and devotion for her husband, daughters, and grandsons. She was a member of the Rocky Mount United Methodist Church. The family would like to thank her dedicated caregivers Angie, Celeste, Dorothy, Evelyn, Cathy, and Alycia. Also, the nurses and staff at Amedisys-Hospice and Pheasant Ridge. A special thank you to longtime family friend, Mike, and great niece, Jackie. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made in Christine‘s name to the Rocky Mount United Methodist Church and the Franklin County Historical Society. Chris and her husband, Ben, had a great life together and so much love for each other that ultimately they passed within days of one another. A “Celebration of Life “ service honoring both Ben and Chris Angle will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at 2:00 pm in the Rocky Mount United Methodist Church and 3:00 pm graveside service at High Street Cemetery followed by a reception at the church.
