Christine Hunt Rigney, age 93 of Rocky Mount passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 with all her children gathered around. She rejoins her father and mother, John W. and Lutie Belcher Hunt; her beloved husband of 68 years, Charles Hugh Rigney; sisters, Hazel Hunt Dudley, Frances Hunt Davis, and Clara Hunt Haynes; and brother, J.W. Hunt, Jr. Christine grew up in a warm and devoted farm family and spent the whole of her life in Franklin County. She was a homemaker and gardener who made her corner of the world a beautiful place and all who passed by happier. She made her children’s clothes and tickled their toes. Her colorful quilts were treasured gifts. Christine cherished every celebration and welcomed every new day. Her life was simple and sweet in the best possible way. Now she is in heaven’s garden where she can keep watch over her precious family and the bluebirds, dogwoods, and roses she loved so much. Surviving are her daughter, Dianne Vest and husband Larry; daughter, Sue Rigney and mate Joe O’Gore; son, Chuck Rigney and wife Ladean; grandson, Tim O’Leary and wife Paige; granddaughter, Shana Angle and husband Brandon; step-grandson, Rusty Vest and wife Melinda; step-grandson, Scott Vest and wife Lisa; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Jenna, and Jacob O’Leary and Jeremy, Alex, and Sydney Vest; brother, George C. Hunt and wife Mabrey; sister-in-law, Annie R. Kirk; brother-in-law, S. Clifton Haynes; and many loved nieces and nephews. A celebration of Christine’s life will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel on Saturday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Richard Geoghegan officiating. Interment will follow at Franklin Memorial Park. Flowers are appreciated, and planting a living tree or flower in Christine’s memory would be most welcome. Memorial contributions may be made to Rocky Mount Christian Church, 125 S. Main Street, Rocky Mount, VA 24151, where Christine was a longtime member. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
