Christine Webster Wagner, age 95 former resident of Franklin County went to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, August 17, 2011. Born August 11, 1916 to parents, Martha Susan Lynch and Warren Franklin Webster, she delighted in life’s simple blessings. Christine was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Dupey M. Wagner, who held pastorates in the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church; brothers, Howard T. Webster and Paul F. Webster; and sister, Helen Kathleen Webster. Cherishing her memory are son, James W. Wagner of Halifax, VA; daughter, Patricia W. White (John J. White III) of Columbus, OH; daughter-in-law, Rebecca Holt (John) of Danville, VA; grandsons, Paul W. Wagner and Adam Lester of Danville, VA; John J. White IV (Aisha) of Nashville, TN; Edmund T. White (Anna) of Lawrenceville, NJ; and great-granddaughters, Mia Christine White and Nicole Marie White of Lawrenceville, NJ. She is also survived by sister, Geraldine Hylton; niece, Kitty S. Hylton; nephew, Larry G. Hylton (Geraldine) of Glade Hill, VA; nephew, Richard Hylton (Win) of Pinellas Park, FL; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth B. Webster of Rocky Mount, VA and Eunice M. Wagner of Abington, VA; friend of the family, Gene Herrick; and other much regarded nieces, nephews and cousins. A graduate of Radford University, Christine was a respected fifth grade teacher at Boones Mill and Rocky Mount Elementary schools and was fondly remembered by many of her students. As a pastor’s wife she was an inspiration to church families and served and held positions of leadership in United Methodist Women. She was a member of Rocky Mount United Methodist Church and a former member of the Rockview Club and the Franklin County Historical Society. Blessed with a phenomenal memory, Christine loved to share stories of her early years as a farm girl growing up in Franklin County. A trip she especially enjoyed was a visit with her Webster cousins in the western United States. Other travel included New England, Hawaii, Alaska, Europe and Australia. Always a gracious hostess and accomplished cook, Christine was happiest surrounded by her family and friends at home. Her family expresses appreciation for the caring support by Pastor Ed Rigg and members of Main Street United Methodist Church in South Boston and Rocky Mount United Methodist Church. Sincere appreciation is expressed to the staff at The Woodview of South Boston, especially nurses and aides on Unit 2, for their consistent compassionate caregiving over the past three years and to the Hospice Staff of Halifax Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted from Rocky Mount United Methodist Church 3:30 p.m. Sunday with Rev. Edward Rigg and Rev. Bruce D. Tuttle officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Main Street United Methodist Church, 701 North Main Street, South Boston, VA 24592 or Rocky Mount United Methodist Church, 35 North Main Street, Rocky Mount, Virginia 24151 or Outreach Ministry of South Boston Church of God, 3000 Halifax Road, South Boston, VA 24592. Her family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
